reciprocity and order.

THE COMMITTEE TO REINSTATE ALTON H. MADDOX, JR.
The committee represents a cross-section of our community. The legal struggle couple
with the support for justice for Tawana and Glenda Brawley has been not only protracted
but also unprecedented in our community. This support along has shocked the political
establishment. We are requesting your support in the struggle to reinstate the law
license of Alton H. Maddox, Jr. He has suspended for 14 years and denied the right to
practice law despite the fact that he has never been convicted of any crime or illegal
act.
Given continued, widespread, white supremacy in this country, white males enjoy a license
to abuse any female and especially a Black female.
|
For example, females in the military
have to be concerned about sexual motives of a male soldier as they face the homicidal
disposition on the "enemy".
After the motion for immediate and automatic reinstatement to practice law was filed by
Mr. Maddox last August, he learned that the indefinite and definite suspension had been
changed to disbarment and that his reinstatement to practice law would be subject to the
whims of the Appellate Division, Second Judicial Department rather than to legal standards
or the conditions in the suspension order.
After a suspended attorney has satisfied all of the written conditions in a suspension order,
he or she must be automatically reinstated to the practice of law. The disciplinary committee
has admitted that he has satisfied all of the written conditions in the suspension order.
The Brooklyn Appeals Court has now upped the ante. Alton Maddox must bend, buckle and bow
this year, otherwise, he will forfeit any future right to be considered for reinstatement
to practice law. This is simply another act of terrorism. Our ancestors had to witness
it on the plantation especially when an unruly Black would be whipped unmercifully.
This new tactic has arisen because of the expanding grassroots pressure that Eliot Spitzer,
the NY state attorney general, is incurring to compel him to honor his 1998 campaign promise.
Since white politicians own Black leaders, they know that Black leaders will bury their heads
in the sand while they breach their campaign promises.
History will repeat itself again with the presidential campaign of John Kerry. These Black
leaders, who have already failed us in the past, will once again be on the campaign trail
endorsing Kerry and escorting him through the Black community. Yet, they refuse to stand
with brothers and sisters in our community who have been wounded for carrying on the struggles
of our ancestors.
